8.2.5 Mental Map's Exploitation
Mental maps analysis opens several routes of reflection. I concentrated on the
reading of the interpretation, which could account for (and compare) different
ways of space representation. The question is to elaborate the model of analysis
and interpretation of mental maps, and this one is, obviously, foreign to classic
topographical representation. Thus, I used the matrix of Kevin Lynch. According to
Lynch, the images could be distinguished by the quality of their structure.
K. Lynch ( 1998 ) proposed four degrees of the mental maps' structure:
1. No structure
The various elements are unlinked. There is neither structure nor interrelation
between the elements (Fig. 8.1 ).
