1. Wanja had one of the few methane digesters that actually worked well in the country in
1982. He had discovered that adding hog manure to cattle manure was needed to keep
the fermentation going. The feces from coarse forage-fed zebu cattle lacked some of the
substrate needed to sustain productive fermentation. Fudumi clinic lights, kitchen, and
lab ran on the low-pressure methane resulting from the proper mixture.
