AbstRAct
This chapter invites the reader to join international efforts to provide adequate high-
quality food for all of the world's population. The life's work of a physician/educator,
the addition of iodine to irrigation water, locally sourced ready-to-use therapeutic
foods, and the assurance of food safety with limited resources are used to illustrate
some of the features of successful efforts.
IntRoductIon
The previous 23 chapters have described how the world feeds itself and presents the
means by which all of humanity can be fed well, in perpetuity. We know how, and
we have the resources required to provide adequate food for all. Never, in the history
of the world, has malnutrition been so preventable, so unnecessary, its persistence so
immoral as it is today. Fortunately, with the readers' help, marasmus, kwashiorkor,
and micronutrient deficiencies may soon become a thing of the past, to follow small-
pox into oblivion. But, without the readers' involvement and the involvement of those
with the same knowledge, malnutrition will continue to shame our species.
