In-Depth Information

tailspin, kickstarting the biggest humanitarian crisis the Sahel has ever known. Radical
Islamists holding the northern part of the country have banned all secular music. Ali Farka
Touré's music has been outlawed in his hometown, Niafunké, where it once echoed joy-
ously. That Mali - any part of Mali - should be without music is unthinkable , a travesty.
An international protest movement is gathering pace.
