Religion
Over half of all West Africans are Muslim and it's very much a north-south divide:
the countries of Morocco, the Sahel and Sahara are predominantly Muslim, while
Christianity is more widespread in the southern coastal countries. That said, in almost
every country of the region, traditional or animist beliefs retain a significant hold over
the population.
