Getting There & Away
The gare routière is in the heart of town, two blocks east of the Shell petrol station. The
road between Kpalimé and Atakpamé is the worst in the country, which means few taxis
from Kpalimé travel further north than Atakpamé (CFA2000, four hours) and you'll have
to change there for services to Sokodé or Kara.
You can get minibuses direct to Lomé (CFA2000, two hours), to the Ghanaian border
(CFA1000, 30 minutes) and to Ho in Ghana (CFA1500, 1½ hours).
WORTH A TRIP
CASCADE DE WOMÉ
One great attraction in the Kpalimé area is the Cascade de Womé (Womé Falls; 99 01 01 12;
www.akatamanso-togo.comli.com ; Womé; admission CFA1000; 8am-5pm daily) , 12km from Kpalimé. Ac-
cess to the falls is at the village of Womé. You have to pay CFA1000 to the Association Akatamanso at the en-
trance to the village (ask for a receipt). It's a further 4km to the picnic area near the falls. From the picnic area,
it's a short but steep descent to the waterfalls through lush vegetation. You can swim beneath the falls - bliss!
From Kpalimé, a moto-taxi ride to the falls should cost around CFA3500 return, including waiting time.
TOP OF CHAPTER
Atakpamé
POP 85,000
Once the favourite residence of the German colonial administrators, Atakpamé today is a
commercial centre. There are no sights, but it makes a pleasant enough stopover on long
journeys.
