Aného
POP 49,000
All that remains of Aného's days as colonial capital in the late 19th century are crumbling
pastel buildings. Voodoo is strong here and most obvious at Vogan's Friday market , one of the
biggest and most colourful in Togo, about 20km northwest of Aného; taxis from Aného
(CFA800, 30 minutes) leave from the junction on route to Lomé.
Festivals & Events
Aného plays host to the Festival des Divinités Noires (Festival of Black Divinities), which has
been held in December each year since 2006. It celebrates voodoo - expect singing, dan-
cing, beating of drums and parades.
