Toubakouta & Missirah
Toubakouta is a fantastically calm and pretty spot in the south of the Siné-Saloum Delta,
and is one of the country's best places for birdwatching. In town, Keur Youssou ( 33 948
7728; www.keuryoussou.com ; Touba kouta; s/d CFA7700/13,000; ) has beautifully furnished rooms
and a relaxed ambience. Keur Thierry ( 77 439 8605; Toubakouta; d incl breakfast CFA14,000; ) has
equally lovely rooms but the better kitchen and colder beers. Hôtel Keur Saloum ( 33 948
7715; www.keursaloum.com ; Toubakouta; s/d incl breakfast CFA38,000/58,000; ) is the classi-
est place in town. A pirogue and donkey-cart ride away, Keur Bamboung ( 77 510 8013;
www.oceanium.org ; bungalows with half/full board CFA17,000/22,000) is the hub of the Marine Protected
Area surrounding it. Things are simple and green, and the location is stunning. Phone to
arrange pick-up from Toubakouta.
South of Toubakouta, Missirah is the point of entry to the Parc National du Delta du
Saloum. The peaceful Gîte de Bandiala ( 33 948 7735; www.gite-bandiala.com ; Missirah; per person with
half/full board CFA16,900/23,200) sits right on its edge, has a water hole on site and organises
tours through the Forêt de Fathala.
A private taxi from Toubakouta to Missirah costs around CFA6200.
