in Morocco's wilderness has ensured that 18 mammal and 11 bird species are considered
endangered.
Pollution, desertification, overgrazing and deforestation are the major environmental is-
sues facing Morocco. Despite plantation programs and the development of new national
parks, less than 0.05% of Moroccan territory is protected, one-third of Morocco's ecosys-
tems are disappearing, 10% of vertebrates are endangered and 25,000 hectares of forest
are lost every year.
