In-Depth Information
Rue Alioune between Ave Kennedy and Ave du Général de Gaulle is good for fast
food, with most places open until 11pm or later - most have a Lebanese bent.
Le Prince
FAST FOOD
$
(Rue Alioune; mains UM500-1300)
A bit grander than most fast-food joints, Le Prince claims to be
Nouakchott's oldest restaurant. Plonk yourself on a wobbly chair in the room at the back
and tuck into a plate of well- prepared
shwarma
(a kebab-like dish), sandwiches, salads
and ice cream - all great value.
Café Tunisie
CAFE
$
(Ave Kennedy; set breakfast UM1000)
Next to Tunis Air, this cafe is fine for coffee and smoking a
water pipe, but comes into its own with fantastic breakfasts - freshly squeezed orange
juice, bread, jam, pastries, yoghurt, coffee and a bottle of mineral water. A fine way to
start the day.
Rimal
INTERNATIONAL
$
( 4525 4832; Ave Abdel Nasser; mains about UM1000; closed lunch Sun)
This place thoroughly lacks
any pretensions but is all the better for it. The surroundings might have seen better days,
but the service is fast and the food piping hot. There are good salads, chicken dishes and a
variety of tasty fish straight from the Port de Pêche.
Bla Bla Thé
CAFE
$$
( tel, info 3669 1073;
www.facebook.com/blablathe
; Ave du Général de Gaulle; mains from UM1400, juices
UM800)
A fresh and funky cafe inside Maison d'hôtes la Bienvenue.
Pizza Lina
PIZZERIA
$$
( 4525 8662; Rte des Ambassades; mains UM1500-3500)
A long-established player on the Nouak-
chott dining scene, Pizza Lina now faces stiff competition from the many similar places
along this stretch of Rte des Ambassades. All the same, you'll find decent crispy pizzas
and a selection of pasta and meat dishes.
