ACCOMMODATION
While Bissau has a range of accommodation to suit most budgets, conditions are generally
more basic elsewhere in the country (the luxury fishing lodges of the Bijagós are an excep-
tion). National electricity is severely limited, forcing hoteliers to rely on expensive generat-
or power.
ACTIVITIES
The waters around the Bijagós are renowned for their deep-sea fishing spots. Snorkelling is
also possible, as is forest trekking. The national parks are fabulous for birdwatchers.

Banks and government offices
Usually 8am to noon and 2pm to 5pm Monday to Friday,
although hours vary.
Shops
From 8am or 9am until 6pm Monday to Saturday. Some close for lunch.
