MONEY
It's wise to travel with a supply of cash. At the time of research, there were only two
ATMs in the country that accepted international Visa cards (MasterCard was not compat-
ible); one is inside Hotel Malaika, the other across the road from Hotel Kalliste. Hotels do
not take payment by credit or debit cards, although some, such as the Coimbra Hotel, ac-
cept wire transfers. To change money, either ask your hotel for an informal moneychanger
or try Ecobank or Banco da Africa.

Getting There & Away
There are daily flights to Bissau with TACV Cabo Verde Airlines, TAP Air Portugal,
Senegal Airlines and Royal Air Maroc.
Once in Bissau, you can get sept-place taxis (Peugeot 504s with 'seven seats') and
transporte misto (literally 'mixed transport') buses to just about anywhere in the country
at the paragem (bus park), about 4km (CFA1000 by taxi) west outside town.
Getting Around
The airport is 9km west of the town centre. A taxi to town should be around CFA3000.
Shared taxis - generally blue, well-worn Mercedes - are plentiful and ply all the main
routes. Trips cost CFA350. Rates for longer routes vary and have to be negotiated.
Blue-yellow toca-tocas serve main city routes (for CFA100), including Ave de 14
Novembro towards the paragem and airport.
