Faso, is a much more expedient and cheaper process.
Togo The embassy issues visas for one month on the same day. Alternatively, you can get
a visa at the border at Aflao, but it's only valid for seven days and you'll need to extend it
in Lomé.

Ghana is one of Africa's top volunteering spots, and you'll find literally hundreds of or-
ganisations that arrange short-term and long-term placements.
Many guesthouses listed in this topic can help arrange short-term placements within
their communities or local schools. The government-sponsored US Peace Corps and UK
Voluntary Service Overseas are both active in Ghana.
Getting There & Away
You need a yellow-fever vaccination certificate to enter Ghana.
AIR
Kotoka International Airport in Accra is Ghana's international gateway and an increas-
ingly important hub for regional African air travel.
Every major European airline flies to Accra; Emirates now also flies daily to Dubai, open-
ing a host of easy connections to Asia-Pacific. There are direct flights to the US east
coast.
You'll find plenty of direct flights to other parts of Africa, including South Africa, Kenya,
Ethiopia, Egypt, Morocco and most neighbouring West African countries.
LAND
Ghana has land borders with Côte d'Ivoire to the west, Burkina Faso to the north and
west, and Togo to the east. Crossing is generally straightforward . The main border cross-

With Côte d'Ivoire: Elubo, Sunyani- Agnibilékrou and Bole-Ferkessédougou
With Burkina Faso: Paga and Hamale
With Togo: Aflao and Wli
Border crossings are normally open 6am to 6pm, except Afloa, which shuts at 10pm.
Burkina Faso
Direct STC buses run to Ouagadougou from Accra (C48 + CFA1000, 24 hours) and Ku-
masi three times a week.
