Sleeping & Eating
Lake Bosumtwe makes a great alternative to Kumasi for exploring Ashanti country: the
accommodation is better value and the setting is, well, unrivalled. The downside is that
there is less choice.
Lake Point Guesthouse LODGE $
( 024-3452922; Lake Bosumtwe; dm/d/tr C10/38/46) This little piece of heaven sits right on the
shore of Lake Bosumtwe, in a secluded spot about 2km east of Abono. The bungalows,
bright and charming, are scattered on the slopes of a beautiful garden. Stephen, the
Ghanaian owner, is a delightful host and can help you organise excursions around the lake
and Ashanti country. His restaurant is the best in the area, with a daily changing menu
(mains C12 to C25) and, a rare thing in Ghana, desserts.
Rainbow Garden Village LODGE $$
( 024-3230288; Lake Bosumtwe; dm/d/bungalows C15/50/65) The Rainbow used to be the place to
stay in Bosumtwe, but the hotel is looking a little tired these days. The location, right on
the lakeside, is as enchanting as ever, but the service and rooms need a new lease of life.
It's located 4km west of Abono.
Getting There & Away
You can sometimes find tro-tros travelling directly between Kumasi and Abono, but it's
more likely you'll need to go to Kunatase first (C2, 45 minutes) and then catch a shared
taxi from there (C1, 15 minutes).
