Tafi Atome & Tafi Abuipe
These two small villages are worthy eco-tourism destinations in the region. Tafi Atome (ad-
mission C8) has long been known for its Monkey Sanctuary : the mona monkeys, revered by the
villagers, are habituated and readily come to feed off the hand of visitors. Early in the
morning and late in the afternoon, they can be seen roaming the village.
In Tafi Abuipe (admission C10) , it is the village's kente weaving tradition that takes pride of
place. You can visit the weaving room, tour the village and organise homestays (C7 per
person per night). The kente in this part of Ghana is good value and with a bit of notice,
villagers will produce any textile to any measurement and deliver it to where you're stay-
ing.
Tafi Atome and Tafi Abuipe lie a couple of kilometres west off the Ho-Hohoe road, not
far off the village of Fume. If you don't have your own transport, you can charter a taxi
from there for about C20.

Wli Falls
Ghana's tallest waterfalls, the Wli (pronounced 'vlee') falls stand amid an exquisite land-
scape of rolling hills, forests and bubbling streams.
It takes about 40 minutes to walk from the welcome centre to the lower waterfalls
(C10) along an easy path. Much more challenging is the hike to the upper falls (C13),
which takes about two hours and requires clambering in places. The falls are most im-
pressive during the rainy season, when you can hear - and feel - the flow of water thun-
dering down.
The excellent Wli Water Heights Hotel ( 020-9119152; wliheights@yahoo.com; r without/with bathroom
C40/55, d with air-con C80) is a beautiful spot just 500m from the falls. The garden is the perfect
place to wind down after a day of trekking.
Wli is right on the border with Togo. Regular tro-tros and shared taxis make the scenic
run between Wli and Hohoe (C2, 40 minutes). If you're heading for Togo, the Ghanaian
border post is on the eastern side of Wli (turn left at the junction as you enter the village).
