BEACHES
Most beaches in this area are relatively safe for swimming, but currents can sometimes get strong. Care should be
taken along the beach in Fajara, where there's a strong undertow . Always check conditions before plunging in.
The erosion that used to eat its way right up to the hotels has largely been reversed, so that the beaches of Kotu,
Kololi and Cape Point are once again wide, sandy and beautiful. Kotu is particularly attractive, with sand and
palm trees, beach bars and juice sellers on one side, and an area of lagoons a bit further north, where Kotu Stream
cuts into the land (that's where birdwatchers head to).
Cape Point , at the northern tip of Bakau, has the calmest beaches. As this is a more residential area, you get
less hassle from touts.
If the Atlantic Ocean or fending off bumsters doesn't appeal, all the major hotels have swimming pools. Most
places allow access to nonguests if you buy a meal or a drink, or pay a fee.
