downstairs.
Torre Sabina GUESTHOUSE $$

vistas inside a funky tower right on Baixona beach in Calheta. Run by a German couple,
it's surrounded by lovely gardens; there's a kayak you can use for free. Delicious break-
fast is included and dinners are available on request.

Kabana SEAFOOD $
(mains CVE650; closed all day Tue & evening Sun) Wooden beach shack with a deck on the sand,
with friendly service and simple fish and meat dishes.
Tropical SEAFOOD $
(mains CVE600; Tue-Sun) Beachside spot with a travellers' vibe and a good range of food,
such as spaghetti, pizzas, toasts and fish mains. There's a great sunset happy hour.
Wolf Djarmai INTERNATIONAL $
(mains CVE700; 8am-11pm, closed Sat) Capeverdian and European food is dished out at this
funky German-run spot inside a blue container fronted by a tree-shaded terrace, just up
from the main square behind the church. The Friday night tocatina is the place to be.
Cala Grande Piano Bar BAR
( 2561140; 9am-11pm) Opened by well-known Capeverdian musician To Tavares, this
small bar in Calheta serves as the island's unofficial cultural centre. There's a dance com-
pany and music school as well as traditional music concerts by a resident band every
Saturday. Food, prepared by village ladies, is available if you call a day ahead (CVE600
per dish), and there are a couple of basic rooms in the back (CVE3500).
