Naturalia TURTLE-WATCHING
( 2511558; www.naturaliaecotours.com ) Turtles come to Boa Vista in massive numbers in order
to lay eggs. Several agencies on the island offer turtle-watching tours in season (July to
October), but Naturalia is the best and most environmentally sensitive; tours cost €50 per
person and typically depart around 7.30pm, returning at midnight. Naturalia also offers
whale-watching excursions (€65 per person per half-day) between February and May, when
humpback whales travel the waters off Cape Verde; and birdwatching tours for €50 (there
are 24 species on Boa Vista). It also arranges snorkelling trips to Baía das Gatas, where you
swim among rich coral and nurse sharks.
Morena 4WD TOUR
( 2511445; www.boavistamorena.com ; 9am-12.30pm & 4-7pm Mon-Fri, 9am-12.30pm Sat) If you're a
landlubber, book a 4WD tour around the island with Morena; it has half-day trips for
CVE4400 and full-day jaunts for CVE5500. Morena also offers horseback riding along
the beach for CVE3300 per hour.
If you're feeling adventurous, you can hire a 4WD from CVE5500 to CVE7000 per
day; look for La Perla and Olicar on the main square. Alternatively, hire a taxi with a
driver (the going rate is between CVE6600 and CVE9900 per day, depending on where
you want to go).
Sleeping
With an increasing number of tourists venturing to Boa Vista, accommodation can be
tight. It's a good idea to book ahead.

most decent budget pick in town, with a set of poky and dark rooms with private bath-
