Pensão Las Vegas PENSION $
( 2812223; s/d CVE2000/3000) It might not be as glam as its namesake, but nevertheless this
is a decent place to stay, and the cheapest digs in town. Half of the rooms have sea views,
some come with terraces and all have hot-water showers in the private bathrooms.
Pousada Belavista GUESTHOUSE $
( 2811734; p_belavista@yahoo.com; s/d CVE2600/3600; ) An understated, impeccably run
hotel built around an old colonial home and a new adjacent building. Rooms are well fur-
nished if a little stuffy, some have ocean views, and breakfasts are hearty. Rooms with air-
con cost CVE200 extra.
Tortuga B&B GUESTHOUSE $$
( 9941512; www.tortuga-fogo.eu ; s/d CVE3520/ 4950; ) A heavenly little beach hideaway a
10-minute drive or a 30-minute walk along the beach from town. The live-in Italian own-
ers take good care of their guests, who stay in four stylish rooms with an earthy look or
the straw bungalow in the garden. Think hammocks between palm trees, the sound of
crashing waves, a beach at your doorstep... Roberto cooks up amazing meals on request
(CVE1600 for three courses), and a delicious breakfast of local products is included. It's
also a good place to arrange a variety of island tours. Call ahead for a pick-up; taxis tend
to overcharge for the rough road that comes down here.
Hotel Savana HOTEL $$
( 2811490; www.hotelsavanafogo.com ; s/d CV3900/ 4500; ) This startlingly yellow, renovated
colonial building dressed up in showy pink bougainvillea is a comfortable base. The
rooms are simple but have an old-fashioned elegance and the black volcanic rock decora-
tions contrast nicely with the bright colours. The pricier suites come with sea vistas.
There's a plunge pool in the inner courtyard.
