In-Depth Information
SOUTHERN CAMEROON
Southern Cameroon is largely taken up by thick jungle, and there are few large towns or
other population centres here. However, the coastline here is by far Cameroon's best: head
to Kribi for great scenery and a relaxed vibe, and continue further down the coast to in-
dulge in a spot of beach exploration and ecotourism in Parc National de Campo-Ma'an.

Kribi
Kribi is home to Cameroon's best beaches: the sand is fine, the water crystal clear, fresh
fish is on the menu and cold beer on tap; there are times when Africa hugs you.
Most of Kribi's hotels, usually with their own beachfronts, start at the southern end of
town, but camping isn't advised. The Chutes de la Lobé , 8km south of town ( moto-taxi
CFA500), are an impressive set of waterfalls that empty directly into the sea - it's a beauti-
ful sight.

Kribi's main business is tourism and there's plenty of choice in where to stay. If you're vis-
iting in the rainy season, ask for a discount.
Hotel Panoramique HOTEL $
( 2346 1773, 9694 2575; hotel panoramique@yahoo.fr; Rue du Marché; r CFA6000-15,000; ) This semi-
sprawling compound feels like a down-at-heel villa evolved into low-rent flophouse. Some
rooms are good value, but at the cheapest end you're in an ugly annexe with the dust and
roaches.
Hotel Ilomba HOTEL $$
( 9991 2923; www.hotelilomba.com ; Rte de Campo; r CFA40,000, ste CFA120,000; ) Some
way out of Kribi, this is the loveliest hotel in the area. Rooms are in boukarous and all well
furnished and tastefully decorated. It's also just a short walk to the Chutes de la Lobé and
right on a beautiful stretch of beach, so it's a great place to base yourself for true relaxation.
