WESTERN CAMEROON
Imagine Africa: wormy red tracks and vegetation so intensely green you can almost taste
the colour. This image comes alive in Western Cameroon. The country's economic heart in-
termittently beats in Douala, and from here it's a short hop to the haze and laze of beach
towns like Limbe and the savannah-carpeted slopes of the Mountain of Thunder - Mt
Cameroon. In the Anglophone northwest you can slip between sunburnt green hills while
exploring a patchwork of secret societies, traditional chiefdoms and some of the country's
best arts and crafts, particularly the wooden masks that are so often associated with Africa.
