Maison Madeleine Père
GUESTHOUSE
$
( 20 90 03 26; Gaoua; s/d CFA6000/8000)
Run by nuns, this quiet establishment in a monastery
southwest of the city centre has impeccable rooms in pretty grounds. The biggest down-
side is that it doesn't serve meals. To find it, ask in the centre: most people know it.

This is, all told, Gaoua's best option: service is glacial and the rooms are nothing to
write home about, but the compound is very pleasant, it has a handy location between
town and the bus station, and the wi-fi works. It also has the only decent restaurant in
town, serving grilled meat and a few Lebanese specials (mains CFA2000 to CFA3000).

One of the town's better
maquis,
right in the centre of
town; expect the usual rice or
tô
(millet or sorghum-based
pâte
) with sauce.
Getting There & Around
The
gare routière
is 2km out of town. You'll find bus services to Bobo-Dioulasso
(CFA5000, 2½ hours, two to three daily) and Ouagadougou (CFA7000, five daily, four
hours). Direct services to Banfora are by
taxi-brousse
only (CFA5000, four hours); it's
best to go to Bobo and find onward connections.
To get around Lobi country, charter a taxi in Gaoua (starting around CFA25,000, de-
pending on how far you want to go).
