We can't
think of a better place for immersion in local culture. This modernish
tata

five rooms that are tidy, functional and well priced, and a well-scrubbed ablutions block.
Hearty meals too. It's run by Ecobenin, which offers high-quality ecotours in the area.
Bikes are also available.

This is a wonderfully laid-back Boukombé haven, with a leafy courtyard, a chilled-out
ambience and tasty meals. Rooms occupy a large
tata
house. It's basic but clean and high
on character. Joséphine and her daughter Valérie can organise village visits, cultural tours
and dance classes. Pick-ups from Natitingou can also be arranged.
Getting There & Away
It's best to get to the Atakora with your own transport, but a few bush taxis do ply the
dusty trail between Nati, Koussoukoingou and Boukoumbé (CFA2000, two hours), where
you can cross into Togo. Otherwise,
zemi-johns
(about CFA5000, three hours) will take
you, but be prepared for a dusty and tiring ride.
CROSSING INTO TOGO
If you cross into Togo from Boukombé, make sure you get your passport stamped at the
gendarmerie
(police sta-
tion) at Boukoumbé as there is no border checkpoint.
