ARIZONA SYCAMORES AND HORSETAILS GROW ALONG MADERA CREEK.
Continuing north from the amphitheater, the Madera Creek Trail starts by fol-
lowing the left bank and descending almost imperceptibly. Almost 0.5 mile from the
amphitheater, the trail crosses the stream and passes through the west section of the
Madera Picnic Area. (The east section, across the road, is the trailhead for the Bog
Springs and Kent Spring Loop .) After the picnic area, the trail passes through a very
green, moist section with many horsetail plants. The creek is crossed a couple of times
via wooden bridges before you arrive at the Whitehouse Picnic Area, 0.6 mile beyond
the Madera Picnic Area. Here, one of the Wheelchair-Accessible Loops in Hike 35
begins.
If you left a second vehicle here, you're finished; if not, it's back the way you
came. Walking back along the road to the Mount Wrightson Picnic Area is a shorter
return trip, but I don't recommend it because there's no sidewalk and the road is very
narrow.
