Back on the Mount Lemmon Trail, you'll climb northeast on the steepest part of
the loop. This is where the youngest members of your group might want a shoulder
ride. It's wide and rocky until you reach the fork with the Meadow Trail. Turn right
here to return to the trailhead.
Nearby Attractions
To the right of the entrance of the parking area is a sign for the Mount Lemmon
Sky Center (520-626-8122, skycenter.arizona.edu ) . Part of the University of Ari-
zona's Steward Observatory, it can be visited most nights on 5-hour guided tours, with
opportunities for using large telescopes to view astronomical objects. Guided by en-
thusiastic professional astronomers, tours are limited to 20 people and cost $60 (dis-
counts available). Reservations are recommended.
Directions
Follow the directions for Hike 12 , Babad Do'ag Trail, to reach Milepost 0 on Mount
Lemmon Road (Catalina Highway). From Milepost 0, drive 24.6 miles to the Ski Val-
ley turnoff, to the right just before the village of Summerhaven. After about 2 miles,
you'll pass through Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley and continue about 1.8 steep, curving
miles to the trailhead. This last section is usually closed in winter.
