pine also grow around some of the mountain passes.
Mountain flowers
The very best places to get out of your car and enjoy the wildflowers center on Dunraven
Pass—along the Chittenden Road at the north and along the Mount Washburn Trail begin-
ning right at the pass. There and at other high places, you'll find many of the flowers already
described and those listed below, as well as dozens of others.
Forget-me-not
W HITE
White phlox (Phlox multiflora) is a low, mat-forming plant with small, snowy five-petaled
flowers (see its picture on page 192 ) . It appears in sunny places soon after the snow has melted.
B LUE /P URPLE
he forget-me-not (Myosotis alpestris) is unforgettable due to its small and intense blue
flowers with tiny yellow centers (or sometimes red or white centers).
Silky phacelia (Phacelia sericea) puts up a tall spike dense with purple flowers with long, pro-
truding stamens, giving it a silky or feathery appearance. Insects are attracted by its strong,
disagreeable odor.
