Fireweed
Fireweed (Epilobium angustifolium) grows on its 4- or 5-foot (1.2-1.5 m) stem quickly after
burns. The aptly named paintbrush or Indian paintbrush (genus Castilleja) is Wyoming's
state flower. Its color is in the bracts, or specialized leaves from which the flowers arise, which
may be red, white, orange, yellow, or pink. The roots of the paintbrush penetrate the roots of
nearby plants and steal food from them parasitically.
Indian paintbrush
Sticky geranium (Geranium viscosissimum) is common in damp meadows. It's a pink or rose-
colored five-petaled flower with large, five- to seven-lobed leaves.
