Grand Teton National Park is created
ater much controversy over the pos-
sible expansion of Yellowstone Park.
U.S. stock market crashes, beginning a
worldwide depression.
1930
First museums in Yellowstone are
opened at Norris, Old Faithful, and
Madison.
1931
Fishing Bridge Museum opens.
1933
The Yellowstone Library and Museum
Association is formed (later the Yellow-
stone Association).
1933-42
Civilian Conservation Corps serves Yel-
lowstone.
The national C.C.C. builds bridges,
fights fires, and helps pull the country
out of depression.
1936
The Beartooth Highway to the North-
east Entrance from Red Lodge, MT, is
opened.
Automobiles could cross the Beartooth Plateau on the new highway—but with difficulty (1937 photo

1937
Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and cot-
tages replace older hotel at the same
site.
1941
U.S. is attacked by Japan at Pearl Harbor
and enters World War II.
