In-Depth Information
From Tower Junction to Canyon Junction
This stretch of the Grand Loop Road takes you first to the popular Tower Fall area, then climbs
steeply to cross Dunraven Pass, opened to wagon travelers in 1905. Near the top of this highest
pass in Yellowstone, you can stop for excellent mountain panoramas in three different direc-
tions. The midsummer wildflowers are outstanding.
The distance from Tower-Roosevelt Junction to Canyon Junction is about 18 miles (29
km).

0.0/18.3 Tower-Roosevelt Junction. The main road toward the south leads to Tower Fall, Dun-
raven Pass, and Canyon Junction; west is Mammoth Hot Springs Junction; east is the North-
east Entrance. Just west of the intersection is a service station and, slightly farther west, the
Tower Ranger Station. On a short side road directly across from the entrance road is Roosevelt
Lodge and cabins.
Roosevelt Lodge and cabins
The lodge, named for President Theodore Roosevelt, contains a dining
room, wheelchair-accessible restrooms, and registration office for cabins and activities. You
may arrange horseback rides, stagecoach trips, and Old West cookouts.
There's a general store nearby with tables on its porch. The store sells firewood
for cabin stoves and campsites.

hind Roosevelt Lodge and go left at the signboard—don't cross the creek as you would for Lost
Lake. It's a moderately steep climb with loose gravel on the trail near the top, but the 40-foot
(12 m) falls and its setting are a delightful reward. In late summer, look for raspberries along
the trail. Lost Creek Falls was described in Hiram Chittenden's 1903 guidebook as providing
“a scene of quiet beauty rarely found in so wild and rough a country.” Compared with the
