In-Depth Information
Small boats of all kinds may be launched on Yellowstone Lake from the boat launch
site at the end of the first road on the right after the service station. The Grant area is the best
part of the lake for sailboats, but the former marina here was damaged by winter storms and
subsequently closed. Required permits and regulations for boating are available at the visitor
center. (See page 153 and the Travel Tips for more about lake recreation.)
Grant also has a post office, a family restaurant (where reservations are
required), the Lake House (for breakfast and dinner only), a cocktail lounge, a gift shop, the
Grant Visitor Center, and an amphitheater for ranger lectures. An excellent exhibit about the
1988 Yellowstone fires and the park's history of fire is on display at the visitor center.
On the way to the Grant Village Campground are a selfservice laundry and
showers. Several campsites and restrooms in loops A and B are wheelchair-accessible.
Grant Village is situated along West Thumb Bay.
