In-Depth Information
KL'S NEW MRT
To give it its full title, the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) project ( www.mymrt.com.my ) involves
the construction of a rail-based public transport network which, together with the existing light rail transit (LRT),
monorail, KTM Komuter, KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit systems, aims to ease the road traffic congestion that
plagues the Greater Kuala Lumpur/Klang Valley region. The ambitious target is to make half of all journeys in the
Klang Valley area ones by public transport.
Launched in 2011, the project aims to create three new commuter rail lines, the first of which is the 51km Sun-
gai Buloh-Kajang line; 9.5km of this link will run underground and drilling for the tunnels is causing disruption
currently in parts of KL city centre. Phase one, from Sungai Buloh to Semantan, will be operational by 2016. The
remaining part of the line to Kajang will be finished the following year.
Pudu Sentral Bus Station
Steps from Chinatown and also close to the Golden Triangle, this crowded bus station (left luggage per day per bag
RM3; 6am-midnight) serves destinations around the peninsula as well as Singapore and Thailand. It's the kind of
place you want to get in and out of quickly. The crowds provide plenty of cover for pickpockets and bag snatchers, and
agents for various bus companies will pounce on you as soon as you enter. Close to the main entrance is an information
counter. Located at the rear is a left-luggage counter and tourist police.
Plaza Rakyat is the nearest LRT station.
Terminal Bersepadu Selatan
Connected to the Bandar Tasik Selatan train station hub, about 15 minutes south of KL Sentral, is Terminal Bersepadu
Selatan ( 03-9051 2000; www.tbsbts.com.my ; Bandar Tasik Selatan) serving destinations south of KL including
Melaka, Muar, Johor Bahru and Singapore.
Putra Bus Station
A number of mainly east-coast Malaysia services arrive at this station opposite PWTC (Putra World Trade Centre) sta-
tion (easily reached by taking the LRT to PWTC, or a KTM Komuter train to Putra station).
Pekeliling Bus Station
Buses arrive here from central peninsula locations including Kuala Lipis, Raub and Jerantut. It's next to Titiwangsa LRT
and monorail stations, just off Jln Tun Razak.
