As we were told by the
gruff-but-friendly manager here, 'The most important thing about this hotel is that
everything is the same in every room.' And he's right; the 24 rooms in this clean, well-
run, comfortable midranger are similarly equipped with TV, air-con, and relatively attract-
ive and functional furniture, although some rooms are slightly larger and have huge bal-
conies. If you favour value rather than style, this would be your best option in George
Town.

The main structure of this antique shophouse
holds three rooms, all sharing a bathroom, while out back are three two-level suites (three
additional family rooms were being built at research time). The place has a funky, retro
vibe and friendly service, making it perfect for young couples or solo travellers; however,
some people might be put off by some of the hotel's rather rustic amenities and features.

This building's original
owners would no doubt be shocked to learn that their former stablehouse (mews) is today
an attractive boutique hotel. The nine rooms have an elegant minimalist vibe, with each
room boasting an inviting lounge area and a retro black-and-white tiled bathroom, but
conspicuously at this price range, no wardrobe, minibar or safe.

The White House
would probably be a more apt name for this recently opened hotel. It's housed in an all-
white former mansion, with smallish rooms also decked out in virginal white, with, of
course, white furnishings and amenities. It's all very pure and clean-looking, if somewhat
