Unlike much of Malaysia, Melaka is studded with watering holes. The Friday-, Saturday-
and Sunday-night Jonker's Walk Night Market in Chinatown closes down Jln Heng Lekir
to traffic and the handful of bars along the lane become a mini street party with tables ooz-
ing beyond the pavements and live music.

bar with outside seating and late hours, in a prewar corner shophouse, is a godsend. Seat
yourself with a beer amid the throng and applaud long-time resident artist and musician Mr
Burns as he eases through gnarled classics. A tasty choice of local and Western dishes and
laid-back but professional service rounds it all off.

famed Melaka hippy artist Soon. If you like Soon's trademark cut-out collage art you can
find more of his crazy creations at the used bookshop he runs at 45 Jln Kampung Pantai.

this place is humble but the family are simply lovely and it just feels good to be here. There
are also a few rooms for rent upstairs (from RM130 including one home cooked meal).
