of this high-quality guesthouse is eye-catching and apt for its name. Inside, bright-red

Revamped from a 1940s apartment block, the Paradize offers good-value budget rooms at
the back, which are more sheltered from traffic noise than the better-furnished rooms in
the main building. Long-stay deals are also available. Sadly, swimming isn't permitted in
the pool but the cafe beside it is famous for its Teochew rice porridge.

Although its boutique look is somewhat cheaply thrown together, we do like the
striking marine-life images decorating the walls at this hotel in the midst of the Bintang
Walk shopping strip. Constant promotional rates via online bookings bring it down to the
midrange category.
