gela in 1994, culminates in a public show (usually held in March) in the subterranean gal-
lery in their private estate.
The Art for Nature exhibition of visual arts, which helps raise funds for WWF Malaysia,
is also held here, usually in late July or early August. These events are well worth attend-
ing, not only to see works by some of the brightest stars of Malaysia's art scene but also
for the glimpse it allows into this serene compound that also has an indigenous herb and
spice garden and two beautifully restored heritage buildings - a traditional Malay wooden
house dating from 1901 that shows elements of Chinese design, and a handsome colonial
bungalow transported from Penang.
