Jln Hang Kasturi beside the east side of the market is now called
Kasturi Walk
and has
outdoor stalls (open 10.30am to 10.30pm daily). Thirty-minute dance or martial arts per-
formances occur nightly at 9pm.
KOMPLEKS DAYABUMI

The former headquarters of Petronas, Kompleks Day-
abumi was designed by Nik Mohammed and built in 1981. In profile, the 35-storey
marble-clad tower, cloaked in delicate fretwork screens, forms a four-pointed star inter-
sected by a square, a recurring symbol in Islamic art. To get here, walk over the footbridge
behind Central Market.

If you want your chicken freshly killed and plucked this is where
to get it! Squished in darkened alleys between Jln Petaling and Jln Tun HS Lee is Chin-
atown Wet Market, where locals shop for their groceries.

MEDAN PASAR
(Medan Pasar; Masjid Jamek)
Recently made into a pedestrian square, this was once the heart
of Chinatown, a place of brothels and illegal gambling dens. Yap Ah Loy used to live on
the square and a market was held here - hence its name which translates as Market
Square. In the centre stands an art deco clock tower built in 1937 to commemorate the
coronation of King George IV.

COURT HILL GANESH TEMPLE

There's always a lively scene outside this small
temple, dedicated to the elephant-headed god Ganesh, as worshippers buy garlands, light
ghee candles and smash coconuts for good fortune.
