pretty and aloof atop Lot 10. The entry passage is hung with reproductions of Russian old
masters, while inside you can take your pick from, allegedly, KL's best selection of cham-

TEA SALON SHOWDOWN
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - perhaps a comforting thought for venerable Parisienne tea
emporium Mariage Frères which appears to be the blueprint for a pair of fancy tea salons squaring it off on Bukit
Bintang.
In the bowels of Starhill Gallery is local contender Starhill Tea Salon MAP GOOGLE MAP ( 03-2719
8550; www.starhillgallery.com/dining_sub.asp ?tenantID=248; Starhill Gallery, 181 Jln Bukit Bintang;
10am-1am; monorail Bukit Bintang). Grand columns created from colour-coded tea caddies and luxurious sofas
set an elegant tone in which to enjoy a sybratic afternoon tea (RM70 for two; 3pm or 5pm) or nibble at the macar-
ons or handmade chocolates. The salon's 1am closing makes it a good choice for those who fancy a late-night
cuppa.
Over in Pavilion KL, the Singapore-based TWG Tea MAP GOOGLE MAP ( www.twgtea.com ; Level 2, Pavil-
ion KL, 168 Jln Bukit Bintang; 10am-10pm; monorail Bukit Bintang) has set up its elegant stall. This luxury
operation has a mind-bogging range of over 450 varieties of teas and infusions, starting around RM18 a pot.
Many are beautifully packaged in pots and boxes as gifts. Afternoon tea is served 3pm to 6pm and starts at
RM26.50. It also serves breakfast up until noon for RM28.50.
