MODEL CHAIN
Fig. 11.2 The CAPRI and SEAMLESS-IF model chains
in the chain (GTAP-Model, see Hertel 1997) . Therefore, price and market outcomes
are endogenous in SEAMLESS-IF as well using a CAPRI version whose supply
response is based on extrapolation of the FSSIM models (see also Chapter 5
of this volume; see Fig. 11.2 ). Thereby, the trade policy instruments are also
included in SEAMCAP, but only a subset is currently explicitly represented in the
scenario editor of SEAMLESS-IF limiting the accessibility to implement
changes in scenario definitions.
Comparing Objectives and Structure
Perhaps the most striking similarity of SEAMLESS-IF and CAPRI is the fact that
both modelling systems have been designed as instruments for policy impact
assessment on European agriculture at pan-European level. SEAMLESS-IF can be
considered a full vertical model chain, with a large range of scales ranging from
calculating environmental externalities at field level to multi-sectoral analysis of
policies in an open economy (see van Ittersum et al. 2008) . CAPRI is an integrated
model chain with an 'economic core model' linked to satellite models in different
