and are very sensitive to the value of the natural environment. The natural areas
around cities are frequently used for outdoor leisure activities, such as climbing,
hiking and mountain biking. Therefore, the expansion of villages takes place close
to historical centres and alongside the main highways, in harmony with nature
protection, according to environmental models of land management. Agriculture no
longer belongs to the garrigue; it is limited to a few remnants of historical vineyards
producing high quality wine. Landscapes are thus very wooded, as the natural value
put forth is the Mediterranean forest.
