Sports & Activities
Although hailing cabs in New York City can feel like a blood sport and waiting
on subway platforms in summer heat is steamier than a sauna, New Yorkers still
love to stay active in their spare time. And considering how limited the green
spaces are in New York, it's surprising for some visitors just how active the loc-
als can be.
Running & Bicycling
The 1.6-mile path surrounding the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir is for runners
and walkers only. Also try the paths along the Hudson River in Lower Manhattan or FDR
Dr and the East River in the UES. NYC has added more than 250 miles of bike lanes in the
last five years, but the uninitiated should stick to the less hectic trails in the parks and along
the rivers.
Indoor Sports & Activities
Yoga and Pilates studios dot the city. If you're looking to score some gym action, try your
luck getting a complimentary pass from one of the franchised studios.
