In-Depth Information
CBGB
Start at the former CBGB (315 Bowery), a famous music venue that opened in 1973 and
launched punk rock via the Ramones. Now a John Varvatos boutique, the fading wall
posters and wild graffiti remain untouched.
Joey Ramone Place
The corner to the north marks the block-long Joey Ramone Place , named in honor of the
Ramones' singer, who succumbed to cancer in 2001.
Cooper Union
Head north on the Bowery to Astor Pl. Turn right and head east through the square to
Cooper Union , where in 1860 presidential hopeful Abraham Lincoln rocked a skeptical
New York crowd with a rousing anti-slavery speech that ensured his candidacy.
