MODERN AMERICAN
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
On the borderline of East Harlem, ABV draws a young, laid-back crowd tucking into ec-
lectic sharing plates (fish tacos, foie gras mousse, scallops, veal sweetbreads), wine ($9 to
$12 per glass) and craft beers. Soaring ceilings and cozy brick walls invite lingering, and
there's live music on Monday nights (from 9pm), except during football season. (

JG's is a loud, old-school, melon-themed pub that has been serving basic burgers on tea
plates since 1972. It's a local favorite for both eating and drinking (the Bloody Marys are
excellent) and it gets crowded in the after-work hours. If you're feeling claustrophobic, try
lunchtime instead. (

The lines get long at this popular cafe at Neue Galerie (see 3 , A2), which evokes op-
ulent turn-of-the-century Vienna. Thankfully the well-rendered Austrian specialties make
the wait well worth it. Channel Central Europe with smoked trout crepes, goulash soup
and creamed spätzle (a type of German noodle). Adding temptation is a long list of spe-
cialty sweets, including a divine sachertorte (dark chocolate cake laced with apricot pre-
serves). (
