Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum
Part of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, this house of culture is the only
museum in the country dedicated to both historic and contemporary design. The collection
is housed in the 64-room mansion built by billionaire Andrew Carnegie in 1901. The mu-
seum closed for an extensive renovation and expansion, and is slated to reopen in 2014.
