Roof Garden
One of the best spots in the entire museum is the roof garden, which features rotating
sculpture installations by contemporary and 20th century artists. (Jeff Koons, Andy
Goldsworthy and Imran Qureshi have all shown here.) Yet its finest features are the views
it offers of the city and Central Park. It's also home to the Roof Garden Café & Martini
Bar, an ideal spot for a drink — especially at sunset. The roof garden is open from April
to October.
Top Tips
A desk inside the Great Hall has audio tours in several languages ($7), while docents offer guided tours of spe-
cific galleries. These are free with admission. Check the website or information desk.
The museum crowds can often be overbearing. If you're looking for a bit of calm, it's best to avoid the Met on
weekends.
The most popular galleries with children are generally the Egyptian, African and Oceania galleries, and the col-
lection of medieval arms and armor. You can grab a special museum brochure and map made specifically for
tykes.
Take a Break
In the warmer months (April to October), wander up to the roof garden for brilliant views of Central Park and its
abutting skyscrapers. You'll also find the Roof Garden Café & Martini Bar ( Click here ), the best place in the
museum for a sip — especially at sunset.
