Largest Collection of the World's Smallest Versions of the World's Largest
Things Traveling Roadside Attraction and Museum
(www.worldslargestthings.com), a reconstituted bus that tours the country. It con-
tains exhibit space for an unusual collection of miniature replicas of all things
deemed the “world's largest,” including the world's largest ball of twine.
People are such fanatics about Winfield that they've started bulletin boards, chat rooms,
mailing lists, photo galleries, memoirs, and even a radio station.
If you can, come for Land Rush, a prefestival dash for the best camping spots. Many fans
come as much as three weeks early to get numbers and wait for the 7 a.m. starting gun that
signals the opening day of the fairgrounds where the festival is staged. Land Rush happens a
week before the festival begins, and thousands come to stake out their favorite site along the
river or under the same sycamore tree where they've been meeting friends for years.
Walnut Valley Festival is held the third weekend of September at the Cowley County
fairgrounds. Tickets for the five-day festival are $80 in advance. Camping is $7 a day or $10
