The following is a pair of other notable dance vacations:
River Dance.
REO Rafting Resort, near Vancouver, British Columbia, offers a
weeklong Irish Dance Camp. Each day, participants enjoy four hours of dance train-
ing (Michelle Kilby from the Sionnaine Irish Dance Academy does the honors) on
a stage literally backed up to the Nahatlatch River. When you're not hoofing it, you
can be white-water rafting, rock climbing, rappelling, or partaking in ropes courses
and Pilates workouts. There's even an outdoor slumber party in the rafts. At the end
of the week, the “River Dancers” put on a show complete with fiddlers and other
musicians playing Irish jigs. This camp costs $530, meals and tent cabin included,
and is usually held in July.

If ballet is more your cup of tea, consider Sun King Dance in Richmond,
Virginia, which provides intensive instruction in ballet at its Adult Dance Camp. As
director Heidi Pankoff says: “Dance has been the greatest joy in my life, sharing
it has been the second. Our mission is to support and assist those who continue to
dance throughout their lives.” Classes in ballet technique, men's technique, pointe,
pirouettes, and variations will fill your morning. After lunch, you'll indulge in pas
de deux, stretching, jazz, modern, kinesiology, character, and lectures. The program
culminates with a videotaped student performance. The weeklong camp, offered in
June and twice in August, is held at four spacious studios at the Richmond Ballet
facilities in downtown Richmond. Tuition is $595 and includes lunch each day. Spe-
cial rates at the Crowne Plaza Hotel adjacent to the studios are available for camp
participants.
