Mountain Trek Fitness Retreat and Health Spa. The fact that the website for this spa near
Nelson, British Columbia, is www.hiking.com should be your first clue that you're not going
to be doing a lot of sitting around. The scenery at the spa resembles Switzerland, with big
lakes and big mountains. In fact, the only thing small about this spa is the number of guests it
accepts each week: 14 is the max. The Mountain Hiking program with three- and four-night
options includes all meals, regular massages (in fact, nobody gets out of this resort without at
least one massage), and guided hikes through the gorgeous Canadian Rockies. Prices start at
$3,120 ($3,670 Canadian) for a seven-day, all-inclusive program.

Red Mountain Spa. Set on 55 acres of towering cliffs and red rock formations near St. Ge-
orge, Utah, this godfather of adventure spas has 41 adventure guides (there's even an ad-
venture concierge) who will take you rock climbing, geocaching (that's a treasure-hunting
hike using GPS equipment), mountain biking, or hiking into nearby Bryce and Zion National
Parks. The resort's three-story geodesic Sagestone Spa & Salon offers 60 types of spa treat-
ments, and there is a full array of classes on anything physical, mental, or spiritual, from “Chi
Ball Stretch” to “Navajo Storytelling.” A four-night adventure package with daily guided
hikes, three healthy gourmet meals, unlimited classes, a spa treatment (or health and fitness
service), and a trip to Zion is $1,210.

Wilderness Adventure Spa at Spring Creek Ranch. Did somebody say outdoors? At this
spa in the mountains near Jackson Hole, Wyoming, not only will you participate in such
adrenaline-provoking adventures as dogsledding and white-water rafting, but your treatments
themselves are even performed outdoors, in an open-air tent on a butte overlooking the Teton
Range. There's a mountainside meadow (they call it the Great Lawn) for outdoor yoga, an
open fire beside which meditation classes are held, and reiki on horseback, where equine en-
ergy frees yours. Instead of saunas, you'll steam in a Native American sweat lodge. Rooms
at the rustic luxurious pine-pole lodge range from $150 to $310 and include breakfast; hour-
long treatments start at $120.
