and one in Edinburgh. It begins, of course, at the Louvre with an art historian and

tryside, including a stop at the Château de Villette, before going to London to see
other key sites in the novel: the Temple Church, Westminster Abbey, and King's
College Library. The tour ends in Edinburgh, where you'll visit Rosslyn Chapel.

Kirkland's flagship program, “Toronto Pursuits,” is a one-week program held each sum-
mer at the University of Toronto's St. Michael's College. It's a chance to leave behind your
Day-Timer and immerse yourself for an entire week in the great classics of music, philo-
sophy, and literature. Each participant chooses one of 12 seminars (some of the choices in
2007 were Goethe's
Faust,
Tolstoy's
Anna Karenina,
Melville's
Moby-Dick,
Bach's
St. Mat-
thew Passion,
the Book of Genesis, and Iranian cinema) to bone up on before coming. The
two-hour morning sessions are followed each day by a leisurely lunch, where conversation
continues. Afternoons and evenings offer a wide choice of cultural and social activities, in-
cluding chamber concerts, guided walks through Toronto's back alleys, yoga classes, escor-
ted visits to local museums, and theater performances.
The program fee for “Toronto Pursuits” is $925 and includes seminars, lunches, and
most activities. For a moderate fee, accommodations can be arranged at the University of
Toronto's Sorbara Hall. Fees for the learning vacations range from $1,500 to more than
$3,000. The topics are sent to you before your departure, and you are strongly encouraged to
read them before catching your flight.
