The Shoal island known as Smuttynose was the site of a famous 1873 murder
of two Norwegian immigrants. The murder was dramatized in the topic The Weight
of Water by Anita Shreve and a movie of the same name starring Sean Penn and
Elizabeth Hurley.
Prices for the three-day programs are about $400 and include transportation, three meals
a day (except on Sunday when there's only a late morning brunch and dinner), a shared room
in one of the dorms, and all instruction.
