In-Depth Information
lem. Want to come up with your own project? Just name it. In Vieques, for example, Explor-
ations in Travel volunteers helped build and maintain the Humane Society's website. They
have also worked in classroom and community education, teaching locals about the import-
ance of sterilization, vaccinations, and heartworm protection.
Explorations in Travel charges a placement fee ranging from $775 to $975. As Jacobs
explains, “If you're only going for a week, it's not economical. But if you're staying for sev-
eral weeks on up to a month, the price becomes reasonable.”
For the placement fee, Jacob will set up all the arrangements with your host and provide
you with information on where you'll be living (Volunteers at the Vieques Humane Society
stay in a little house near the shelter with a 180-degree view of the ocean), the type of work
you'll be doing, recommended clothing, an equipment list, and contact names and numbers.
